Operating instructions

Safety notes

• Read the operating instructions before commissioning.

• Connection, mounting, and setting may only be performed by trained special-

ists.

• Not a safety component in accordance with the EU Machinery Directive.

• UL: Only for use in applications in accordance with NFPA 79. These devices

shall be protected by a 1 A fuse suitable for 30 V DC. Adapters listed by UL

with connection cables are available. Enclosure type1.

• When commissioning, protect the device from moisture and contamination.

• These operating instructions contain information required during the life cycle

of the sensor.

Proper use

The WTB250-2 photoelectric proximity sensor is an optoelectronic sensor and is

used for optical, non-contact detection of objects, animals, and people.

Starting operation

1 Only WTB250-2P/-2F (PNP, load → M)

L: light-switching, Object is detected, output (Q) HIGH

D: dark-switching, Object is not detected, output (Q) HIGH

Only WTB250-2N (NPN, load → L+)

L: light-switching, Object is detected, output (Q) LOW

D: dark-switching, Object is not detected, output (Q) LOW

Select desired operating mode externally and connect as per connection

diagram

2 With following connectors only:

Equipment plug horizontally (H) and vertically (V) adjustable.

Lock with slider. Connect and secure cable receptacle tension-free.

Only for versions with connecting cable:

The following apply for connection in B : brn = brown, blu = blue,

blk = black, gra = gray, wht = white.

Connect cables.

3 Mount photoelectric proximity sensor to holders (supplied). Maintain

direction in which object moves relative to sensor. Connect photo electric

proximity sensor to operating voltage (see type label).

4 Check application conditions such as scanning distance, size and

reectanceofobjecttobedetectedaswellasofbackground,andcompare

with characteristic in diagram. (x = scanning distance, y = transition range

between set scanning distance and reliable background suppression (z)

in%ofscanningdistance,Ro=reectanceofobject,Rh=reectanceof

background).

 Reectance:6%=black,18%=gray,90%=white(basedonstandard

white to DIN 5033).

5 Adjustment of light reception:

Set scanning distance to max.

Position object. Position light spot on object, red sender light spot visible

on object. Signal strength indicator should light up. If it does not light up,

readjust and/or clean photoelectric proximity sensor and/or check applica-

tion conditions.

6 Setting scanning distance:

Remove object, signal strength indicator should go out (position A = max.).

If it does not go out, turn switch towards min. until it goes out (e.g. position

A). Set switch to min. Position object. Turn switch towards max. until signal

strength indicator lights up (e.g. position B).

If position B < position A:

Select middle setting (e.g. position C). Check complete functioning.

Functioning OK, setting completed. Functioning not OK, check and readjust

application conditions.

 IfpositionA≤positionB:

 Inuenceofbackgroundistoogreat.Checkandreadjustapplicationcondi-

tions.

Object detection check:

Move object into beam; signal strength indicator should go out. If it does

not go out, reduce sensitivity using switch until it goes out. It should light up

again when object is removed; if it does not light up again, adjust sensitivity

until switching threshold is correctly set.

Only WTB250-2R

The WTB250-2 photoelectric proximity sensor meets the interference suppres-

sion requirements (EMC) for industrial use (interference suppression class A).

When used in residential areas it can cause interference.

Maintenance

SICK photoelectric sensors do not require any maintenance. We recommend that

you clean the external lens surfaces and check the screw connections and plug-

in connections at regular intervals.

Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung

DerReexions-LichttasterWTB250-2isteinoptoelektronischerSensorundwird

zum optischen, berührungslosen Erfassen von Sachen, Tieren und Personen

eingesetzt.

Inbetriebnahme

1 Nur WTB250-2P/-2F (PNP, Last → M)

L: hellschaltend, Objekt wird erkannt, Ausgang (Q) HIGH

D: dunkelschaltend, Objekt wird nicht erkannt, Ausgang (Q) HIGH

Nur WTB250-2N (NPN, Last → L+)

L: hellschaltend, Objekt wird erkannt, Ausgang (Q) LOW

D: dunkelschaltend, Objekt wird nicht erkannt, Ausgang (Q) LOW

Gewünschte Betriebsart extern wählen und laut Anschlussschema

anschließen.

Steuerleitung L/D: +U

: hellschaltend, 0 V: dunkelschaltend (NC)

Nur WTB250-2R

L: hellschaltend, bei Lichtweg frei Relais aktiv ( 1 )

2 Nur bei den Steckerversionen:

Gerätestecker nach horizontal (H) und vertikal (V) schwenkbar. Mit Schieber

arretieren. Leitungsdose spannungsfrei aufstecken und festschrauben.

Nur bei den Versionen mit Anschlussleitung:

Für Anschluss in

B gilt: brn = braun, blu = blau, blk = schwarz, gra = grau,

wht = weiß.

Leitungen anschließen.

3 Lichttaster an geeignete Halter (beiliegend) montieren.

Bewegungsrichtung des Objektes relativ zum Taster einhalten.

Lichttaster an Betriebsspannung legen (s. Typenaufdruck).

4 Einsatzbedingungen wie Tastweite, Objektgröße und Remissionsvermögen

des Tastgutes sowie des Hintergrundes überprüfen und mit der Kennlinie

im Diagramm vergleichen. (x = Tastweite, y = Übergangs bereich zwischen

eingestellter Tastweite und sicherer Hintergrundausblendung (z) in % der

Tastweite, Ro = Remission Objekt, Rh = Remission Hintergrund).

 Remission:6%=schwarz,18%=grau,90%=weiß(bezogenaufStan-

dardweiß nach DIN 5033).

5 Justage Lichtempfang:

Tastweite auf Max. stellen.

 Objektpositionieren.LichteckaufObjektausrichten,sichtbarerroter

SendelichteckaufObjekterkennbar.Empfangsanzeigemussleuchten.

Leuchtet sie nicht, Lichttaster neu justieren, reinigen bzw. Einsatzbedingun-

gen überprüfen.

6 Einstellung Tastweite:

Objekt entfernen, die Empfangsanzeige muss erlöschen (Position A = Max.).

Leuchtet sie weiterhin, Drehknopf in Richtung Min. drehen, bis sie erlischt

(z.B. Position A). Drehknopf auf Min. stellen. Objekt positionieren. Dreh-

knopfinRichtungMax.drehen,bisdieEmpfangsanzeigeaueuchtet(z.B.

Position B).

Wenn Position B < Position A:

Mittelstellung wählen (z.B. Position C). Gesamtfunktion überprüfen.

Funktion o.k., Einstellung beendet. Funktion nicht o.k., Einsatz bedingungen

überprüfen und neu justieren.

 WennPositionA≤PositionB:

 Hintergrundeinussistzugroß.Einsatzbedingungenüberprüfenundneu

justieren.

Kontrolle Objekterfassung:

Objekt in den Strahlengang bringen; die Empfangsanzeige muss erlöschen.

Leuchtetsieweiterhin,dieEmpndlichkeitamDrehknopfsolange

reduzieren, bis sie erlischt. Nach Entfernen des Objektes muss sie wieder

aueuchten;istdiesnichtderFall,Empndlichkeitsolangeverändern,bis

die Schaltschwelle korrekt eingestellt ist.

Nur WTB250-2R

Der Lichttaster WTB250-2 erfüllt die Funkschutzbestimmungen (EMV) für den

industriellen Bereich (Funkschutzklasse A). Beim Einsatz im Wohnbereich kann

sie Funkstörungen verursachen.

Wartung

SICK-Lichtschranken sind wartungsfrei. Wir empfehlen, in regelmäßigen

Abständen

–dieoptischenGrenzächenzureinigen,

– Verschraubungen und Steckverbindungen zu überprüfen.

Veränderungen an Geräten dürfen nicht vorgenommen werden.
