Information about these operating

instructions

Congratulations on the purchase of your new device.

You have selected a high-quality product. The operating

instructions are part of this product. They contain important

information about safety, usage and disposal. Before using

the product, please familiarise yourself with all operating and

safety instructions. Use the product only as described and for

the range of applications speciﬁed. Retain these instructions

for future reference. Please also pass these operating instruc-

tions on to any future owner.

Intended use

This radio is an electronic entertainment device.

It receives FM radio stations and functions as an alarm clock.

The device is not intended for any other purpose, nor for use

beyond the scope described. No claims of any kind will be

accepted for damage arising as a result of incorrect use. The

risk is borne solely by the user.

Safety

This section contains important safety instructions for hand-

ling the device. This device complies with statutory safety

regulations. Improper use may result in personal injury and

property damage.

Basic safety instructions

■ Check the device for visible external damage before

use. Do not operate a device that has been damaged or

dropped.

■ This device may be used by children aged 8 years and

above and by persons with limited physical, sensory or

mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge,

provided that they are under supervision or have been

told how to use the device safely and are aware of the

potential risks. Children must not play with the device.

Cleaning and user maintenance tasks must not be carried

out by children unless they are supervised.

packaging material! Keep all packaging materials away

from children. There is a risk of suﬀocation!

■ Do not expose the device to direct sunlight or high tempera-

tures. Otherwise it may overheat and be irreparably

damaged.

■ Keep the device away from open ﬂames (e.g. candles) at

all times.

■ It is not suitable for use in rooms with high temperature or

humidity (e.g. bathrooms) or excessive quantities of dust.

■ Never expose the device to extreme heat. This particularly

applies to storage in a car. Extreme temperatures can

occur in car interiors and glove compartments during long

periods of immobilisation. Remove electrical and electronic

devices from the vehicle.

■ Do not use the device immediately after moving it from a

cold room to a warm room. Always allow the device to

acclimatise before turning it on.

■ Never open the device housing.

None of the components in the device can be serviced

or replaced by the user.

■ Do not make any unauthorised modiﬁcations or altera-

tions to the device.

■ All repairs must be carried out by authorised specialist

companies or by the customer service department.

Improper repairs may put the user at risk. They will also

invalidate any warranty claims.

■ Do not expose the device to water spray or dripping

■ Switch the device oﬀ immediately and remove the batteries

if you notice a smell of burning or smoke. Have the device

► Avoid extreme sound levels, especially over long

periods of time, when you are using earphones.

► Always use the supplied earphones

(type SSRM

20 A1). Diﬀerent earphones can generate hazardous

sound pressure.

► Do not use the supplied earphones

(type SSRM

20 A1) with other playback devices.

Risk of accidents

Risk of impaired perception!

► Acoustic warning and indication signals and ambient

noise can sound diﬀerent while you are wearing these

headphones. Make yourself aware of how these

signals deviate in their sound so that you can recognise

the signals in the appropriate situations.

► Do not use the headphones while driving a vehicle,

riding a bicycle, operating machinery or in any other

situation in which impaired perception of ambient noise

could put you or other people in danger. Please also

observe the statutory provisions and regulations of the

country in which you are using the headphones.

Safety information for batteries

DANGER

Mishandling the batteries can cause ﬁres,

explosions,

leakages or other hazards!

► Keep batteries out of the hands of children.

Store batteries out of the reach of children.

► If a battery has been swallowed, seek medical

assistance immediately.

► Batteries must never be short-circuited, taken apart,

deformed or thrown into a ﬁre.

► Never try to charge non-rechargeable batteries.

► Chemicals from leaking or damaged batteries can

cause skin irritations when touched, so please use

suitable protective gloves if this occurs. In event of

contact with your skin, rinse oﬀ with plenty of water.

If the chemicals come into contact with your eyes, rinse

thoroughly with plenty of water, do not rub and consult

a doctor immediately.

► Always use batteries of the same type! Never mix old

batteries with new ones!

► Only ever use the stated battery type.

► Ensure that the batteries are inserted with the correct

polarity. This is indicated in the battery compartment.

► Clean the battery and device contacts before inserting

the batteries if necessary.

Inserting/replacing the batteries

♦ Open the battery compartment on the rear of the device

by sliding the battery compartment cover

towards the

arrow.

♦ Remove any depleted batteries and insert two new type

AAA batteries into the battery compartment. Be sure to

insert the batteries with the correct polarity.

♦ Slide the battery compartment cover

back on to the

battery compartment until it clicks into place.

NOTE

► When the batteries are depleted, the battery symbol

is shown on the display . Replace them as soon

as possible.

► Note that all settings (time, alarms, stored stations) are

reset when you change the batteries.

Connecting the earphones

♦ Insert the 3.5 mm jack plug of the supplied headphones

fully into the headphone socket

on the side of the

device.

Setting the time

NOTE

► You can only set the time when no alarm is active.

► If you do not press any buttons for approximately

5 seconds, the device exits the settings mode.

All changed settings are saved.

► You can also hold the "‒"

or "+" button to scroll

quickly through the numbers.

► If you select the 12-hour format in the basic settings,

the

abbreviation PM

is displayed in front of the time

between noon and midnight. The abbreviation AM is

displayed between midnight and noon.

♦ When the device is switched oﬀ, press the MODE/

. The display will show the current time format

or ) in ﬂashing digits.

format.

Switching the radio on/oﬀ

♦ Press the button brieﬂy to switch on the radio.

frequency.

Adjusting the volume

You can set a volume between and . The default setting

is .

♦ Press "‒"

or "+" while the radio is playing to set

your preferred volume. VOLUME will also appear on the

display

♦ If you set the volume to

or higher, the display will

show a ﬂashing warning symbol

. Brieﬂy press the

MODE / button to increase the volume further

using the "+" button.

NOTE

► If you do not press any buttons for approximately

3 seconds, the display

returns to showing the

current frequency.

► If you switch the radio oﬀ with the volume between

, it will remain at when you switch it on again.

► The volume setting does not aﬀect the volume of the

alarm sound. The alarm volume is always the same.

Automatic station search and storage

NOTE

► To receive radio stations, you must connect the supplied

earphones

. They function as a receiver antenna.

► Note that the automatic station search overwrites

stations that have already been stored.

♦ While the radio is on, press the MODE /

button

for about 2 seconds to start the automatic station search.

The automatic station search always starts at the lowest

frequency (87.5 MHz).

The radio now scans the whole frequency range (87.5–

108 MHz) for stations with a strong signal. SCAN ﬂashes

on the display

When the radio detects a station, the display shows you the

station preset used (e.g.

) and the symbol goes

out brieﬂy. As soon as you store the ﬁrst detected station,

PRESET will be shown on the display permanently. The

detected stations are stored in the spaces to . Once

the entire frequency range has been scanned and all the

station presets have been ﬁlled, the automatic station search

is ﬁnished and the station saved in preset is played.

♦ Press any button to terminate the search before it is

ﬁnished.

Manual station search

♦ While the radio is on, brieﬂy press the MODE / button

to switch to the search mode. The symbol ﬂashes on

the display

♦ Press the "‒"

or "+" button for about 2 seconds

to start the manual station search either downwards or

upwards. As soon as the radio detects a station with a

strong signal, the search stops and the station plays.

♦ To search for another station, press the "‒"

or "+"

button for about 2 seconds again. The radio will search

for the next station with a strong signal.

♦ Press the

MODE /

button to leave the search mode.

The

symbol will light up permanently again.

Manual station selection

As an alternative to the automatic or manual station search,

you can set stations manually. This also allows you to ﬁnd

stations with a weaker signal.

♦ While the radio is on, brieﬂy press the MODE / button

to switch to the search mode. The

symbol ﬂashes on

the display

♦ Brieﬂy press "‒"

or "+" to scroll through the frequency

band. Each press of the button will scroll down or up by

0.05MHz.

♦ Continue until you have found the desired station.

♦ Press the MODE /

button to leave the search mode.

The

symbol will light up permanently again.

Storing stations manually

You can store up to 20 stations or frequencies in the radio

memory.

♦ While the radio is on, brieﬂy press the MODE /

button

to switch to the search mode. The

symbol ﬂashes on

the display

♦ Select a station to store.

♦ Press the MEM/AL button and hold it until the display

reads PRESET.

♦ Use the "‒"

or "+" button to select a station preset

between

and .

♦ Brieﬂy press the MEM/AL button . Once the display

returns to showing the frequency, the station has been

stored in the selected preset. This process overwrites the

station that was stored in the same space previously.

♦ Press the MODE /

button to exit this mode.

The

symbol will light up permanently again.

Calling up preset stations

♦ While in radio mode, brieﬂy press the MEM/AL button .

The most recently used station preset (e.g.

) is shown

on the display

♦ Use the "‒"

or "+" button to select a station preset

between and . After approx. 3 seconds, the

station stored in the preset will start playing.
