Introduction Operator Manual 10112981
This manual contains important information on the proper use and
routine maintenance of the Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long. All
personnel involved in the use and routine maintenance of this
equipment must carefully review and comply with the Safety
Precautions and instructions contained in this manual. These
instructions are important to protect the health and safety of
personnel using this Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long to process
items in the AMSCO® 7053L Single-Chamber Washer/Disinfector,
and should be retained in a conveniently accessible area for quick
reference.
Advisory IMPORTANT: A listing of the Safety Precautions to be observed
when using and servicing this equipment can be found in SECTION 1
of this manual. Do not use the equipment until you have become
familiar with this information.
STERIS does not intend, recommend or represent in any way that
this Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack Long be used in the AMSCO 7053L
Single-Chamber Washer/Disinfector for the terminal disinfection or
sterilization of any regulated medical device. The Anesthesia/
Respiratory Rack – Long is intended only to perform an initial step
in the processing of soiled, reusable medical devices in the
washer/disinfector. If medical devices will be contacting blood or
compromised tissues, such devices must be terminally processed
in accordance with Good Hospital Practices before each use in
human patients.
STERIS does not recommend processing flexible endoscopes, single-
use instruments, rigid telescopes (optical lens), fiber-optic cables,
multi-part instruments that cannot be disassembled, heat-sensitive
devices and coagulating electrodes using the Anesthesia/Respiratory
Rack – Long in the washer/disinfector. Processing these types of
instruments may result in instrument or equipment damage as well as
improperly cleaned items. All items processed using the Anesthesia/
Respiratory Rack – Long in the washer/disinfector must withstand
temperatures of up to 116°C (240°F).
This Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long is specifically designed to
only hold items as outlined in this manual. If there is any doubt about
a specific material or product, contact the instrument manufacturer
for recommended washing techniques.
Any alteration of this equipment not authorized or performed by
STERIS will void the warranty. Alteration of this equipment which
could adversely affect its operation and efficacy may violate national,
state and local laws or regulations.
Serious incidents that have occurred in relation to this medical
device should be reported to the manufacturer and competent
authority in the country where the incident occurred.

Indications For Use The Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long is designed to be used
in the AMSCO 7053L Single-Chamber Washer/Disinfector for the
efficient cleaning, rinsing, drying and intermediate level disinfection
of different types of anesthesia tubing, bags, masks and respiratory
goods.
IMPORTANT: The Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long is designed
to be used only with the Anesthesia/Respiratory Goods cycle.
Service Information A thorough preventive maintenance program is essential to help
ensure safe and proper washer/disinfector and rack operation. This
manual contains a routine maintenance procedure which should be
followed for satisfactory equipment performance.
Customers are encouraged to contact STERIS concerning extended
service maintenance agreements to give your washer/disinfector
and rack planned maintenance, which will help ensure equipment
performance according to factory specifications. STERIS maintains a
global staff of well-equipped, qualified service technicians to provide
this service, as well as professional repair services. Please contact
STERIS for details.

The following Safety Precautions must be observed when operating or servicing the Anesthesia/Respiratory
Rack – Long. WARNING indicates the potential for personal injury and CAUTION indicates the potential for
damage to equipment. For emphasis, certain Safety Precautions are repeated throughout the manual. It is
important to review ALL Safety Precautions before operating or servicing the equipment.
Strictly following these Safety Precautions enhances the Customer’s ability to safely and effectively utilize the unit
and helps avoid improper maintenance methods which may damage the unit or render it unsafe. It is important to
understand that these Safety Precautions are not exhaustive; Customers are encouraged to develop their own
safety policies and procedures to enhance and complement these Safety Precautions.
WARNING – PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR EQUIPMENT DAMAGE HAZARD:

CAUTION – POSSIBLE EQUIPMENT DAMAGE:
Always wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the task to perform.
Always load or unload Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long on appropriate loading cart or surface.
Incorrect rack loading or overloading could lead to injury and/or damage to the equipment or
instruments.
Regularly scheduled preventive maintenance is required for safe and reliable operation of this
equipment. Contact STERIS to schedule preventive maintenance.
Repairs and adjustments to this equipment must be made only by STERIS or STERIS-trained service
personnel. Repairs and adjustments performed by unqualified personnel or installation of unauthorized
parts could cause personal injury, result in improper equipment performance, void the warranty or result
in costly damage. Contact STERIS regarding service options.
Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long and items are extremely hot when cycle is completed. Allow rack
and items to cool to room temperature and always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment
(PPE) before reaching into chamber.
When cycle is completed, wait until water flow stops before opening door and unloading washer/
disinfector. Hot water or steam may be sprayed through door opening if door is opened too soon. Wear
appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever reaching into chamber.
To avoid equipment damage and maximize processing efficiency, always load soiled items as instructed
in this Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long Operator Manual.
To prevent voiding the warranty or damaging the equipment, use only authorized STERIS replacement
parts.
Use nonabrasive cleaners when cleaning Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long. Follow directions on
containers and rub in a back-and forth motion (in same direction as surface grain). Abrasive cleaners
will damage stainless steel.

to become familiar with the location of the rack components.

2. 2 Preparing
Instruments See Figure 2-2.
Disassemble all anesthesia tubing, bags, masks and respiratory
goods prior to loading them in the Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack –
Long.
Follow device manufacturer’s instructions for use for manually
cleaning items before placing them in the washer.
2. 3 Loading Rack
2.3.1 General Anesthesia items and respiratory goods are loaded on the
Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long components.
A DIN tray can also be used to load smaller anesthesia items and
respiratory goods.

2.3.2 DIN Tray See Figure 2-3.
To load the Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long using a DIN tray,
proceed as follows:
1. Pull out DIN tray from rack.
2. Place small anesthesia items and respiratory goods in DIN tray.
IMPORTANT: Do not place any tubing in DIN Tray.
IMPORTANT: Trays should not be overloaded with instruments
to ensure cleaning efficacy.
3. Place DIN tray back in position in rack.
2.3.3 Helicline, Hollow Jets
and Hooks See Figure 2-1 and Figures 2-4 to 2-10.
To load tubing as well as anesthesia items and respiratory goods
using helicline, hollow jets and hooks, proceed as follows:
1. Place desired items on large hollow jets (see Figure 2-4).
2. Spring stoppers can be used to adjust height of items to be
processed (see Figure 2-1).
NOTE: Ensure the hollow jets are not shorter than the processed
items to provide maximum coverage during the Anesthesia/
Respiratory Goods cycle.

NOTE: Some items are equipped with small tubes. These small
tubes can be connected to hollow jets to ensure complete
coverage of tubes during the cycle. Ensure other extremity of
each tube is free for evacuation (see Figure 2-4).
3. Place desired items on medium hollow jets (see Figure 2-5).
NOTE: Ensure the hollow jets are not shorter than the processed
items to provide maximum coverage during the Anesthesia/
Respiratory Goods cycle.
4. Place desired items on small hollow jets (see Figure 2-6).
NOTE: Ensure the hollow jets are not shorter than the processed
items to provide maximum coverage during the Anesthesia/
Respiratory Goods cycle.

5. Place desired items on hooks (see Figure 2-7).
6. To place desired anesthesia tubing on helicline, proceed as
follows:
a. To obtain maximum coverage during cycle, connect one
extremity of anesthesia tubing on adapter located in bottom
of rack (see Figure 2-8).
b. Place tubing on helicline.
c. To obtain maximum coverage during cycle, insert one of
additional adapters in other extremity of anesthesia tubing
(see Figures 2-8 and 2-9).

7. Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long is loaded and anesthesia
items and respiratory goods are now ready to be processed (see
Figure 2-10).

4.1 Unloading
Anesthesia/Respiratory
Rack – Long
IMPORTANT: When Anesthesia/Respiratory Goods cycle is
completed, allow load to cool before removing Anesthesia/
Respiratory Rack – Long from washer/disinfector chamber.
To unload Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long, proceed as follows:
1. Remove Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long from washer/
disinfector chamber and place rack on loading cart.
2. If desired, step back to pull loading cart away from washer/
disinfector.
3. Items need to be inspected before removing items from
Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long (see SECTION 4.2, VISUAL
INSPECTION, for more details).
IMPORTANT: STERIS recommends unloading Anesthesia/
Respiratory Rack – Long on an appropriate surface or work table.
4. When inspection is completed and all anesthesia items and
respiratory goods are properly cleaned, carefully empty rack.
5. Slide out DIN tray from bottom of rack.
6. Carefully empty tray.

4.2 Visual Inspection IMPORTANT: When Anesthesia/Respiratory Goods cycle is
completed, allow load to cool before removing Anesthesia/
Respiratory Rack – Long from washer/disinfector chamber.
IMPORTANT: Good Hospital Practices dictate all instruments be
inspected for visible debris after processing in washer. Any
instrument with visible debris must be reprocessed until clean and
free of visible debris prior to terminal processing. Failure to reprocess
until all visible debris have been removed may impede terminal
processing.
1. Remove Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long from washer/
disinfector chamber and place rack on loading cart.
2. Once items are cool, check each item to detect residues or
debris.
3. Any item that has not been properly cleaned must be
reprocessed in washer/disinfector until clean.
4. See SECTION 4.1, UNLOADING ANESTHESIA/RESPIRATORY RACK
LONG, to properly unload Anesthesia/Respiratory Rack – Long.
IMPORTANT: STERIS recommends unloading Anesthesia/
Respiratory Rack – Long on an appropriate surface or work table.
