Product overview
The Microsemi PDS-408G Digital Ceiling PoE Switch offers optimal and
cost-effective solution for PoE applications like PoE lighting and other
digital ceiling applications.
It allows lighting fixtures and other Ethernet terminals to receive power,
along with data, over standard Ethernet cables in the most efficient way.
The PDS-408G is a 480W fanless switch, designed to be deployed in the
ceiling or in communications rooms. Provides automatic output PoE
power based on PoE PD device class. It supports full power mode by
providing 60W for all 8 ports simultaneously and any specific port can go
up to 90W.
The 480W high-speed switch can be managed over Web, SSH, Telnet,
CLI. It has 8 ports of 10/100/1000Mbps (Gigabit Ethernet) with PoE BT
ports, 2 Gigabit ports and one 1000M/100M SFP port.

Safety Information
Do not work on the system or connect or disconnect cables during
periods of lightning activity.
Installation and removal of the PoE Switch must be carried out by
qualified personnel only.
The PoE Switch "DATA IN" and "DATA PWR OUT" ports are
shielded RJ45 data sockets. They cannot be used as Plain Old
Telephone Service (POTS) sockets. Only RJ45 data connectors can
be connected to these sockets.
Read the installation instructions before connecting the PoE Switch
to its power source.
Follow basic electricity safety measures whenever connecting the
PoE Switch to its power source.
A voltage mismatch can cause equipment damage and may pose a
fire hazard. If the voltage indicated on the label is different from the
power outlet voltage, do not connect the PoE Switch to this power
outlet!
All wiring and connections shall be in accordance with NFPA 70
(NEC)
This product is not intended to become a permanent part of the
building structure.
Power supply cord must not be attached to the building surface or
run through walls, ceilings, floors and similar openings in the building
structure.
Measures must be taken to prevent physical damage to the power
supply cord, including proper routing.
The ITE should be connected only to POE networks without routing
to the outside plant.
Caution: Double pole/neutral fusing

Attention: fusion bipolaire / neutre

Troubleshooting
Symptom Corrective Steps
The unit does
not power up
1. Verify that a known good power cord is used.
2. Verify that the voltage at the power inlet is between 100 and
240VAC.
3. Remove and re-apply power to the device and check the
indicators during power up sequence.
A port
indicator is
not lit and the
PD does not
operate
1. The unit did not detect a PD and therefore the port is not
enabled.
2. Verify that the PD is designed for PoE operation.
3. Verify that you are using a standard Category 5e, straight-
wired cable, with four pairs.
4. If an external power splitter is in use, replace it with a known
good splitter.
5. Verify that the PD is connected to the Data & Power port
(PoE).
Verify that there is no short over any of the twisted pair
cables or over the RJ45 connectors.
The end
device
operates, but
there is no
data link
1. Verify that the port indicator on the front panel is
continuously lit.
2. If an external power splitter is in use, replace it with a
known, good splitter.
3. Verify that for this link, you are using standard UTP/FTP
Category 5e straight (non-crossover) cabling, with all four
pairs.
4. Verify that the Ethernet cable length is less than 100 meters
from the unit to the load/remote terminal.
SFP transiver
no data
connection
1. Verify that the transceivers are inserted in the transceivers
cage.
2. Verify that the same type of transceivers is applied on both
fiber optic cable ends (Multi or Single mode)
3. Verify that the fiber optic cable is compatible with the
transceivers type.
4. Verify that the fiber optic cable doesn't exceed the
transceivers type maximum length.

detachable power supply cord.
The socket-outlet should be install near the equipment and shall be
easly accesible
This unit operates under SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage)
conditions according to EN60950/IEC 950. The conditions are only
maintained if the equipment to which it is connected, also operates
under SELV conditions.
U.S.A. and
Canada
The cord must be UL-approved or CSA certified.
The minimum specification for the flexible cord is:
No. 18 AWG
Type SV or SJ
Three-conductor.
The cord set must have a rated current capacity of at least 10 A.
The attachment plug must be an earth-grounding type with a

14
There is no safety hazard when the chassis ground connection is not
connected to the "Earth/Ground".
The PoE Switch "DATA IN" and "DATA & POWER OUT" ports are
shielded RJ45 data sockets. They cannot be used to connect telephone
wiring. Only RJ45 data connectors can be connected to these sockets.
The DC power source should be situated near the PoE Switch and
easily accessible. To disconnect the power from the PoE Switch,
disconnect the DC power cord from either the DC power source or from
the PoE Switch power connector.
