Schaut also die drei

denen andere Rennwagen stehen.

The Card Game
A speedy color competition game for 2 – 6 players ages 4 – 99.
Author: Jürgen P. K. Grunau

Length of the game: 5 – 15 minutes
The motors are revving and the tires are squealing in Monza. The super-
sonic racing cars zip along the circuit and sparkle in the sun. But it’s not
horsepower but concentration and some luck with the cards that will
move you ahead rapidly. Who will be the first to bring his racing car over
the finishing line?

Game Idea
Your racing cars are engaged in a competition. How far a player can move
his racing car is determined by the colors of the traffic light card, which he
has just drawn from the pile. In order to move his racing car, one of the
three colors of the traffic light card has to coincide with one of the two
colors shown on the track card in front of his racing car. So take a good
look at the three track cards ahead of your car and think about which
order you should use the colors of the traffic light card in order to move
your racing car the furthest ahead.
The aim of the game is to be the first to move your racing car over the
finishing line.
Preparation of the Game
On one side the track cards show straight roads and on the other curves.
Arrange them however you want to form a racing circuit with a start and
a finishing card. Each player chooses a racing car and places it on the start
card ready to drive. Shuffle the traffic light cards and deposit them as a
provision pile face-down in the center of the table.

Hints:
The fewer track cards you use, the quicker you reach the target.
The game gets easier if you don’t use any obstacle cards with the
oil stain.
How to Play
Play in a clockwise direction. Whoever is best at imitating the noise of
a racing car starts. If you cannot agree the youngest player starts. He
draws a traffic light card from the provision pile and places it face-up
in front of him.
Compare the colors of the three traffic lights with the colors of the
lanes shown on the three track cards ahead of your racing car. You
need a matching color for each following track card.
ENGLISH
15
Do any colors coincide?
• No?
Pity! Your turn unfortunately is over. Discard your traffic light card
face-up. (The traffic light cards are placed face-up in a discard pile.)
Yes?
Great! For each corresponding color you can move your racing car
onto the corresponding lane of the next track card. You can change
lanes at any time.
If you are lucky and think carefully you might be able to move your
car forward up to three track cards. Then place your traffic light card
face-up on the discard pile.
It’s the turn of the next player who draws a card from the provision pile.
If there are no cards left there, shuffle the cards from the discard pile and
prepare a new provision pile.

Important racing driver rules:
You may use the colors of your traffic light cards only once in each
turn.
Some traffic light cards show a circle with all six colors. In this case you
can choose any color to move your car.
The obstacle squares showing an oil stain may not be entered.
When it’s your turn you can move your car over lanes with other
racing cars on it. That means you have overtaken them.
There can be up to three racing cars on one lane at any time.
End of the Game
The game ends as soon as a player has crossed the finishing line thus win-
ning the game.

Variation for professional racing drivers
The rules of the basic games apply, except for the following rules
At the beginning each player receives three traffic light cards and takes
them into his hand.
When it’s your turn, you choose one of them and move your racing
card ahead correspondingly. Then you put the card on the discard pile
and draw a new card.
If you can not move your car with any of the traffic light cards in your
hand you return all three of them to the discard pile and draw three
new cards. You can then use them in the next round.
